Similan, Surin and Koh Rok reopen: season dates and what to know

Snorkeller in the clear shallows off Koh Rok

The Similan Islands season runs from 15 October to 15 May. Every year the Similan and Surin national parks close from mid-May to mid-October, so the reefs can recover through the monsoon. Koh Rok and Koh Haa follow a similar pattern and reopen a little later. Our trips to these islands can be booked for the new season now.

Similan Islands season and other park dates

Opening dates can move if the sea is rough. If a park delays its opening or closes a site on the day, we will contact you to arrange another date.

How to snorkel without harming the reef

  • Use reef-safe sun cream, or cover up with a rash guard.
  • Do not stand on, touch or kick the coral; float and keep your fins up.
  • Do not feed the fish, and never pick up shells or coral.
  • Keep your distance from turtles and let them swim away.
  • Take all your rubbish back to the boat.
  • Wear a life jacket if you are not a strong swimmer; the guides will help.

National park fees

Visitors to the marine parks pay a national park fee. On some trips it is included in the price, on others it is paid in cash at the pier, and the rate differs from park to park. Each tour page says which applies, so check before you go.
